Our school is an art vocational school for children aged 6 to 19, 115 devoted teachers teach 847 students. There are three educational levels: primary, secondary and upper-secondary. Starting from the primary level children are taught to play a musical instrument, or they study painting, depending on their skills and interests, then they continue with their favorite subject ( music or painting) in the secondary level. For upper secondary level there are four subjects or sections: architecture, painting, drama and music. They have three days of ordinary school subjects and two days of specialty classes. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds with family living on limited income, mostly with separated parents or, whose parents work abroad for earning their living. Another problem is that, the children whose families returned after spending some years in schools around Europe when they come back, they do not manage to fit in and keep up with the rest of the students. There are also, new comers from mixed families , so they do not speak either Romanian or English. We believe that school’s role is to promote as many learning opportunities for all pupils , to ensure them equal chances to education and personal development. With insufficient resources, but determined teachers, our school embarks on this project in order to involve our lower and upper secondary pupils into interesting activities of understanding and analyzing why people flee from their own country and to know how to accept and tolerate refugees and the challenges this process brings. The innovative learning activities in school, the project meetings abroad, the contacts with European pupils, of same age and interests, the trips, competitions, team-based project products will have significant contribution to the personal development of our pupils, connected to European cooperation spirit and civilization aspects.
